Twelve-year-old Chiwei from Taiwan learned how to tack and sail around without getting carried downwind. And he graduated from the 2.0-square-meter kiddy sail to a 3.5. Alex, who used to sail boats, was up visiting from Springfield, Missouri. I got him started windsurfing. Toward the end of the session, I let him try my 6.2 instead of the 4.0 trainer sail. He handled it just fine!! Now he's thinking about buying a sailable SUP.

I turned over all the video to Danielle, who professionally edited it into a 3-minute look at her lesson. Thanks, Danielle! Click here to play the video. It's terrific!
My friend Susan B. and her husband Chris came over for an afternoon on the water. She sailed while Chris stayed on their boat. She has only a 6.0 sail, but her Mistral "Prodigy" board is very floaty, so even with my 8.1 sail I typically couldn't catch her -- except when an occasional gust let me plane and triple my speed. There was a strong breeze early in the afternoon, with whitecaps, such that I was pretty confident I could probably plane with just a 7.0. However, I had something even better to do. Then when I finally got on the water the breeze declined so that I never did get planing. Still, it was lovely sailing around. Plus I got to watch an eagle(?) and an osprey(?) fishing.
