The SequenceYour first lesson STARTS ON LAND
First you will get familiar with the board and sail on land. Actually standing on the board on the grass, you will learn - the best way to lift the sail up to a vertical position - how to position yourself and the sail for sailing forward - how to steer - how to tack (get to the other side of the sail, to reverse course) After that, we'll put the board in the water with no sail. You get to walk around on it to get a feeling for where you can stand without tipping over. Finally, we mount the sail on the board and you get to put it all together. (See video at right.) At first I will probably just stand in the shallows near you and give you guidance. Later, as you gain confidence and sail farther away (or go really far away so I have to come rescue you), I'll get my own board and come out with you. The lesson typically lasts at least 3 hours. |

Here's another example of someone doing well on their first lesson. This guy was going to do a tack, but it ended up being a jibe -- but on the "Baby Board" in very light wind it makes little difference.
