ABK Boardsports

ABK Boardsports is the itinerant windsurfing school that has taught me just about all I know in New Jersey,
Delaware, New York, North Carolina, California, and Bonaire. The owner and head instructor is Andy Brandt, shown below having fun on his days off.

This is called a donkey jibe, a much fancier version of the basic planing jibe I'm still trying to master.

Here Andy is doing a few of his favorite freestyle moves, most of whose names I don't even know.

The photo below, of the January 30--February 3, 2017 ABK clinic, was taken at Jibe City in front of posters of the world class pros who call this place home. Besides me and the other happy campers, the pic shows ABK instructors Andy Brandt, Derek Rijff, Farrah Hall, and Brendon Quinn. The photo was taken by ABK instructor Tom Lepak.

I went to Bonaire (which is next to Aruba and Curacao) for some great windsurfing conditions and to take an ABK clinic to improve my skills.

This attempt to plane through a jibe was filmed by the ABK instructors as part of the clinic. I wore my helmet because it was a lot windier than I'm used to.

On a light wind day I was practicing sailing on the lee side of the sail.

Here's GoPro ClewView video of another planing jibe attempt. I keep trying to maintain speed through the entire turn, but I almost always slow way down.

Another light wind day, I ducked the sail to go clew first, then did a clew-first pivot jibe.
