August 3, 2015. I got out on the water for 59 minutes. Only planed for a couple of minutes. Made one planing jibe attempt, which felt very good until I blew the sail flip. Still, a gorgeous day and a great day o' sailin'. | August 4, 2015. Gorgeous weather again! Whitecaps on the lake got me on the water before lunch. It was cool enough that I wore my shorty wetsuit. This short clip shows the best highlight, a dry planing jibe. (If the movie plays jerkily, try pressing "play" and then immediately pausing it for a minute or two. When you resume play it should be smooth.) Here's the Vimeo version. And below, I'll put a YouTube video of something else. |
We've had some extremely light-wind days, when it was demonstrated you can still learn the basics of windsurfing even in almost imperceptible movement of air. But on August 3 and 4 there were little whitecaps on the water that irresistibly got me out sailing. On Aug. 4 I even used my not-biggest sail, the 7.0, and got great planing runs.
