I hope everyone realizes that a novice would not be expected to sail backwinded! (At least not on purpose!)
The next day, Monday, wasn't quite as breezy (so no planing at all), but warmer, with brilliant sunshine. This short video shows what NOT to do when sailing backwinded (i.e., on the lee side of the sail). It's important to sink the windward side of the board, which I was doing just fine at the beginning. However, a little later I forgot and sank the leeward side... (If the movie plays jerkily, try pressing "play" and then immediately pausing it for a minute or two. When you resume play it should be smooth.)
This is Bill vdB, sharing little vignettes of windsurfing on Sayers Lake, in Howard PA. and sometimes elsewhere.
